It is estimated that over 90% of people fail the written portion of the driver’s license test the first time they take it. Failing the test means waiting at least a day or more to retake it and repeated failures could end up costing you money at the DMV. The longer it takes to get a new driver’s license, the longer a person has to wait to drive legally.

Why do so many people fail the written portion of the driver’s license test? Most likely it’s because they did not study and may have felt they didn’t need to, especially if they have been driving for a while. This is especially realistic among people who are relocating to another state; they figure that driving laws cannot be that different between states and since they have been driving for some time, they’ll have no problem with the test.

It is true that basic driving laws across all states are similar but each state has its own unique rules regarding traffic flow and vehicle operation. Knowing the specific traffic laws of the state you will be living in is not only important to pass the written portion of the driver’s license test but you’ll need to know these laws in order to lawfully drive your vehicle.

A person can prepare for the test by taking a free written practice exam. These exams are available online for personal vehicle driver’s licenses as well as for motorcycle licenses and CDLs. Some of these tests do not require a download and can be taken immediately on the website, making them much more convenient that finding a ride to the DMV to get their modest study pamphlet about driving regulations. If you wish to get more practice on the written exams, longer practice tests can be purchased for a nominal fee.

We live in a society where our time is stretched to its limits and our finances are as fixed as ever. Making repeated trips to the DMV to get a driver’s license is not only a hassle but may end up costing a person money if they cannot pass the test the first time. Studying for the written driver’s license exam makes financial and scheduling sense, especially when there are websites devoted to helping you pass the test for free.
